Carmel doctor creates “healing balms”

Dr. Douglas Strobel describes himself as a bit of a “mad scientist.”

A lifetime athlete and neurologist for nearly 20 years, Strobel has created an organic and anti-bacterial balm that treats everything from itchy, dry skin and eczema to migraines and joint pain.

“I created the first balm in my basement with a home brewing kit and muffin pans,” Strobel said. “I was trying to make something that would prevent chafing and blisters while competing in endurance and obstacle course races. I thought the only people who would use my quirky little balm would be runners, but the product line has evolved over the years to meet customer needs.”

Dr. Doug’s Balms are made from five organic ingredients “that really work” – according to hundreds of five-star reviews from around the country. The product line is now being sold in medical offices, salons and boutiques throughout Indiana as well as on Amazon and Grommet.

“Customer response has been overwhelming,” Strobel said. “In fact, customer feedback has been instrumental in building out our product line. From listening to the needs of our customers and other medical professionals, we added zinc to the original balm for sun protection, lemon grass as a bug deterrent, and arnica for bruising and pain. What started as a salve for runners has evolved into a product that can now benefit nearly everyone.”

Dr. Doug’s is a Veteran and Women Owned business. Strobel served in both the Marines and the Navy. His graduate degree is in genetics. He completed his medical training at the University of Texas Health Science Center. As a neurologist, he diagnoses disorders of the brain, nerves and muscles. He also treats patients for headaches, multiple sclerosis and neuromuscular diseases.

“The fact that this balm helps treat many of the disorders I treat in my own patients is just a happy coincidence,” Strobel said. “I like to say we’re in the ‘happiness business.’ Hearing stories about how the product has helped someone is really what it’s all about.”
